Coming this spring...

It's hard to believe that winter has already come and gone, especially with the crocuses popping up in February.  Since 2012 arrived with its 60 degree weather, we have been planning for several exciting additions to the SHarP garden.  We're also doing things a little bit differently this year.

Our first addition will be our "super-raised" beds designed for easier access to planting and picking.  These two beds will be dedicated to our Heritage Place friends who meet at Common Ground and have been helping keep an eye on our garden since its start two years ago.  They will be modeled after a similar bed located at Fairview Presbyterian Church that was built as a project by the Eagle Scouts.  Here is a preview of this bed and hopefully what ours will look like!

The last couple of seasons have given us a better idea of how to better organize the planting and harvesting of our crops to better serve our volunteers, the food pantries, and the neighborhood.  Using that information we will be separating our existing beds into smaller 3' x 8' raised beds and assigning them by number.  The organization given that particular bed will chose what they would like planted there, and they will be responsible for the upkeep and harvest.  We hope that ownership of the space will lead to a more community-based garden.  There will be 36 individual beds. If you're interested in your own bed, please send a message to sharedharvestproject@gmail.com.

The first work day is set for Saturday April 14 from 10:00am - 1:00pm.  We will have the soil and compost delivered that morning, so bring your shovel and work gloves.  We will also be placing our new raised beds in place.

Looking forward to another bountiful year!
